E&J Gallo Winery has purchased Four Roses Bourbon from Kirin Holdings, bringing the brand back to its American roots for the first time in 83 years.
Founded in 1888, Four Roses operates distilling and warehousing facilities in Lawrenceburg and Cox’s Creek, Kentucky.
The original owner, Frankfort Distilling Company, sold Four Roses to Seagram in 1943, who later passed it to Kirin in 2002.
Kirin said its plans to invest in assets with higher growth potential were the reason for the sale.
Following the acquisition, the brand’s existing team will remain in place, including master distiller Brent Elliott.
“This is an incredibly exciting chapter for Four Roses and a meaningful milestone in our 138-year history,” Elliott said.
“As we join the Gallo family, we are energised by the alignment in values and the long-term vision they bring.”
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Established in 1933 by brothers Ernest and Julio Gallo, Gallo is a family-owned California-based company producing wine, spirits, malt beverages, and ready-to-drink products.
Kirin Holdings, established in 1907, is an F&B manufacturer operating across Asia and Oceania, with a portfolio spanning alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, health foods, and pharmaceuticals.
