Mondelez International has invested $8 million in new packaging technology at its Scoresby confectionery factory in Melbourne’s east, marking the facility’s 50th year of operations.
The upgrade will support the production of more than 120 products, including portioned mini-bags for brands such as Cadbury Pascall Clinkers, Sour Patch Kids, and The Natural Confectionery Company.
This latest funding brings the total investment in the Scoresby hub to $30 million since 2022.
According to the company, the financial injection aims to accelerate regional innovation across product flavours, ranges, and packaging, while allowing the plant to adapt to shifting consumer trends.
Toby Smith, president of Mondelez International for Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, said the new packaging capability is intended to secure the local facility’s future production.
The expansion aligns with long-term corporate projections. By 2035, Mondelez International expects its business growth to be split equally between chocolate and non-chocolate products.
“We are incredibly proud of our 50-year manufacturing legacy at Scoresby and the jobs we have created for hundreds of Victorians in Melbourne’s east over the decades,’’ said Smith.
Mondelez International employs more than 1200 people across its Victorian operations, which include sites in South Melbourne, Ringwood, Scoresby, Dandenong South, and a national distribution centre in Truganina.
According to the confectionery giant, the Scoresby plant, which manufactures jelly lollies including Snakes and Party Mix, operates on 100 per cent renewable electricity.
In March, Mondelez International relaunched its In A Biskit Crispy Potato flavour in the Australian market, a product first popular back in the 1990s.
