Biggest kalette crops out in Coles

kalettesFollowing the success of the newest veggie in the market, South Australian growers, Samwell & Sons, planted 600 per cent more kalettes this year.

Third-generation vegetable grower and Samwell & Sons MD, Scott Samwell, saw the kalettes trend emerging around the globe and recognised the opportunity to collaborate with Fresh Select to introduce the tasty hybrid vegetable to the Australian market.

Samwell said “In a single day we sold the entire volume of kalettes we were hoping to sell in the first week, so this year we’ve planted six times more.

“For more than 50 years my family has been growing Brussels sprouts in the Adelaide Hills and I wanted to bring something to the business that was different and this definitely has added a new dimension to our business,” Samwell said.

Coles GM Fresh Produce, Brad Gorman, said, “Our customers loved kalettes last year so we’re excited to welcome Australia’s newest vegetable back to our fresh food aisles and inspire Australians on how they can incorporate kalettes into their meals.”

Kalettes are now available exclusively at Coles supermarkets nationally for $3.90 per 160g pack.
