Woolworths serves up a vegan Christmas

Woolworths Plant Based Loaf - $8Woolworths is catering to Australia’s increasingly diverse tastes with an expanded range of plant-based offerings for the Christmas table, following a double digit increase in demand at the supermarket for vegan products in 2018.

While ham is still the best seller with 71 per cent of customers serving it on the Christmas table, Woolworths research found that catering for  different dietary requirements is one of the most common challenges for consumers at Christmas.

The new Woolworths Plant Based Loaf priced at $8.00 hit supermarket shelves this week. The soy-based loaf is vegan certified and packed with breadcrumbs, sweet cranberries, chickpeas, green lentils, herbs and spices.

“There is no reason why anyone should miss out at the Christmas table and we are very excited to be able to offer our vegan and vegetarian customers the all-new Woolworths Plant Based Loaf,” Woolworths Director of Fresh, Paul Harker said.

“In the past 12 months, Woolworths has added dozens of new vegan-friendly products to shelves, including dairy-free cheeses and vegan meals. In 2019 we’ll continue to look at providing more affordable, convenient and high quality products in the range to help meet growing customer demand.”

Woolworths is also offering 40 per cent more gluten-free options across its stores. Christmas treats include the new Free From Gluten Chocolate Sponge Pudding for $2.50, Free From Gluten Fruit Pudding 700g at $8.00 and Free From Gluten Fruit Mince Bites 8 pack for $6.00.
