Sunfed to shake up Meatstock with launch of plant-based bacon and beef

As the plant-based meat category continues to boom, New Zealand company Sunfed has announced two new products following on from the launch of its flagship Chicken Free Chicken product at Coles stores last year.

This weekend, the brand will showcase its alternative bacon and beef products at barbecue festival Meatstock in Auckland.

“We chose Meatstock for our public launch of Sunfed Boar Free Bacon and Sunfed Bull Free Beef because we are serious about empowering meat eaters with new choices,” said Shama Sukul Lee, CEO and founder of Sunfed.

“These products are game changers, a world first – try and find anything as good as this in the global market. You can’t. New Zealanders know how to do protein.”

As with the Chicken Free Chicken product, yellow peas are the core ingredient in Boar Free Bacon and Bull Free Beef.

They are non-allergenic with no gluten or soy and are cholesterol and trans fat free.

Sukul Lee said the company strives to create products that are “equal to or better than the status quo in order to create real choice for consumers”.

Jay Beaumont, Meatstock co-founder, said it will be exciting to have Sunfed debut the new products at the festival.

“It’s about time we had a plant based brand come and show us what they’ve got!” he said.
