Nestle has confirmed it will discontinue its vegan KitKat range after four years, citing high production costs and waning sales.
The KitKat V was developed at Nestle’s confectionery research and development centre in the UK, and launched in 2021 as a plant-based alternative to the classic chocolate bar.
However, Nestle said product required dedicated manufacturing facilities, adding significant cost pressures to the business.
“Production lines have now ceased for global Vegan KitKat lines,” a spokesperson told Reuters, noting that remaining stock will still be available in Tesco and Sainsbury’s while supplies last.
The decision comes as momentum for plant-based products slows globally.
Analysts say consumer interest has shifted from processed alternatives toward fresh produce, with some shoppers questioning whether plant-based options are as healthy as once perceived.
It remains uncertain whether Nestle will consider reviving the brand if demand returns.
