Coopers craft beers are now available in India after the brewery secured a distributorship with VBev, one of India’s largest liquor importers and distributors.

Established in 1862, the brewery is the largest locally-owned brewery in Australia. It produces ales, stouts and lagers and has been brewing its signature Pale Ale for more than six generations, using only natural ingredients, including malt, hops, sugar, water, and a “special yeast strain” over 90 years old.

“Coopers is the only Australian craft beer in the Indian market,” said John Southwell, trade and investment commissioner, Austrade India.

The commissioner said there are few imported craft beers in India and few international beer brands have built breweries in India, and he expects Coopers to do well – especially in states where there is less tax on beer.

Beer accounts for a third of the Indian alcoholic beverage sector, and Euromonitor projects the total beer volume will increase by 6 per cent CAGR and reach 2.9 billion litres in 2025.

“VBev’s nationwide network means Coopers’ craft beers will become more widely available to Indian consumers,” Southwell added.
