Citing public demand, Sara Lee has relaunched its Banana Cake, after discontinuing the product several years ago.
Sara Lee Banana Cake is made using Australian bananas and has a banana cake foundation with a layer of creamy vanilla frosting on top. The brand said the dish can be enjoyed with several toppings ranging from crushed walnuts to caramel sauce.
Sara Lee discontinued the distribution of the cake amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In a social post, the company said that if any of its items dropped below a specific sales threshold, supermarkets would remove them from shelves.
“Australians have asked, and we’ve listened,” said Sara Lee’s head of marketing Jo Matthews
“Sara Lee fans haven’t been subtle in their desire to see the Banana Cake return, from petitioning online to demanding on socials, there was no chance we could miss their dedication and devotion to see it back.”
The cake is available in the frozen dessert section of select independent groceries across the country with an RRP of $6.50.
McCain Foods sold the Sara Lee business to South Island Office, a New Zealand investment firm, in 2021. McCain has continued to provide business process and service support to Sara Lee after the sale, according to the terms of the purchase agreement.
