Woolworths to supply Circle K stores in New Zealand

Woolworths has entered a wholesale agreement with  Pamma Retail Group – the New Zealand master franchisee for global convenience retailer Circle K – to supply groceries to its New Zealand stores.

The agreement represents the sixth confirmed wholesale customer since Woolworths NZ launched its wholesale business, New Zealand Grocery Wholesalers (NZGW), in June last year. Australian-headquartered Woolworths is the owner of the Countdown, SuperValue and FreshChoice grocery chains in New Zealand.

Circle K is a convenience retailer that serves fresh food, hot and cold beverages, and other convenience products. It also offers fuel, car wash services, and – in select locations – electric vehicle charging.

Iqubal Basra, CEO at Pamma Retail Group, said the company is excited to introduce new products and provide customers with a convenient shopping experience.

“We will continue to expand on our grocery selection to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Basra.

Steve Sexton, GM of NZGW, says that while the businesses’ capacity is still growing, partnerships with retailers like Circle K will help increase options in the grocery sector.

“We’ve worked hard over the past year to build an entirely new wholesale business at pace, and it’s been heartening to see such a positive response from the sector so far, including our supply partners and customers,” said Sexton.

“We’re dedicated to helping to provide better options for Kiwi shoppers across the board, and our agreement with Circle K is another important step in making that a reality,” said Sexton.

The WWNZ Grocery Wholesalers business operates separately from Countdown, SuperValue and FreshChoice, with a completely different buying team having discussions with suppliers around products, supply and potential wholesale volumes.

“Opening up our wholesale offering has been a team effort across the board, from suppliers to customers to our New Zealand Grocery Wholesalers team, and it’s been great to see the results of that start to come through,” said Sexton.
