Chobani has partnered with Foodbank to release a range of yoghurts that support the organisation’s fruit and vegetable programs. For every tub sold, Chobani contributes the equivalent of six meals to Australians in need.
The new yoghurts are available in 907g tubs with two flavours: Strawberry and Passionfruit.
According to Foodbank’s hunger report last year, more than 3.7 million households are experiencing food insecurity, with nearly half (48 per cent) having reported reducing their purchasing of fresh produce and protein to cope.
Foodbank’s programs help facilitate donations from the horticulture sector, supplying produce to Aussies in need while offering a sustainable solution for surplus or out-of-spec products.
The funds raised from the campaign will go towards purchasing and distributing fruit and vegetables across the country. However, some states may use the funds primarily to buy food, while others will allocate more toward transport and logistics.
Brianna Casey, CEO of Foodbank Australia, explains that items such as fruits and veggies are often the first thing to be left behind when times are tough, and campaigns like this are crucial for food security.
“The face of hunger is changing,” said Casey. “It’s not just those who live on the street but those on your street who are experiencing hunger.”
Tim Browne, GM ESG and general counsel for Chobani, added that the partnership with Foodbank is more than just a one-off collaboration; it is a long-term partnership to use food as a force for good.
“As a food and drinks manufacturer, we ensure everyone has access to nutritious food,” he explains. “However, we recognise that understanding the specific needs of communities experiencing food insecurity is complex and requires expertise – that’s where Foodbank comes in.”
Driven to use its platforms, resources, and influence to improve food access, Chobani hopes the campaign will encourage other brands to impact individuals and local communities positively.
“Businesses have the power to effect change and positively impact individuals and communities experiencing hunger,” concluded Browne.
“Through initiatives like this, we aim to motivate other food and beverage manufacturers, demonstrating how they too can look at new ways to use their platforms to help Aussies in need.”
Chobani’s x Foodbank’s fundraising yogurts are available for an RRP of $7.90 in Woolworths stores nationwide.
