Brownes Dairy debuts alternative milk range

Brownes Dairy debuts alternative milk range

Brownes Dairy has introduced alternative dairy products, including alt-milk made from oats, almonds, and soy.

The dairy company said it worked closely with the cafe industry – including Dimattina Coffee, a barista training company, and coffee connoisseurs – to develop new products that meet the growing demand for alternative milks.

Leigh Kitchen, GM for Dimattina, said alt-dairy has changed the game for cafes, with a third of coffees made with oat, almond, or soy milk.

“Cafes now need good quality alternative dairy available, and baristas need to be trained on how to work with different products,” said Kitchen.

Rebecca Smith, GM of marketing at Brownes, added that the company spent more than three years of R&D working closely with baristas to create the right frothing formula.

“We didn’t want to launch this product until we were certain that we had what cafes were looking for, which is an alternative milk that would froth for a barista in the same or similar way as regular milk,” she explained.

As the country’s oldest dairy company, Brownes will be the only WA-based dairy brand – so far – offering an alt-dairy range.

“We are big believers in the goodness and nutritional value of milk and dairy, but we are also conscious that customers’ tastes have evolved, and they want a variety of products in their coffees and fridges,” Smith concluded.

Brownes Dairy will initially launch the alternative milk products into the West Australian market, then expand into the eastern states and Singapore.

Brownes Dairy already distributes yoghurt and cheese in Singapore grocery chains, including Giant, Cheers, and Fairprice. It will launch the alternative milk range there in the second half of this year.
