L’Oreal has partnered with IBM to support sustainable beauty product development by leveraging the latter’s generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technology.
The cosmetics giant said this initiative will help meet its target of sourcing most of its product formulas based on bio-sourced materials by 2030, to support a more circular economy and preserve the planet’s natural resources.
A custom AI foundation model will be developed to aid L’Oreal’s research and innovation team in analysing complex data and formulations, accelerating the creation of new products, reformulating existing cosmetics, and scalability of production.
“Building on years of unique beauty science expertise and data structuring, this major alliance with IBM is opening a new exciting era for our innovation and development process”, remarked Matthieu Cassier, chief transformation and digital officer of L’Oreal research and innovation.
