Confectionery giant Perfetti Van Melle has launched a pilot initiative in New Zealand to replace plastic sticks with paper ones in its Chupa Chups Classic Lollipops.
The transition is expected to cut the plastic weight of each lollipop by around 60 per cent, supporting the company’s broader sustainability goals.
“We’re switching to paper sticks for Chupa Chups Classic Lollipops to reduce plastic intensity – an important step in reducing plastic waste while maintaining the same great taste and quality that Chupa Chups fans love,” said Amelia Goldsmith, brand manager for Chupa Chups Australia and New Zealand at Perfetti Van Melle.
New Zealand is the first market in the Apac region to trial the paper sticks, with further rollouts planned across additional countries in the region.
Perfetti Van Melle’s latest initiative highlights the company’s ongoing investment in its sustainable innovation as part of its global effort to reduce environmental impact.
In February, Chupa Chups partnered with Springhill Farm to launch a new snack range, Slice x Chupa Chups balls, rolling out in Coles bakery aisles.
