Future of health and beauty shaped by technology, IGD says

The future of the health and beauty industry hinges on technology and social media usage, according to a new report by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD).

The annual report on the sector found five trends that could give retailers and suppliers in the space an advantage.: The introduction of holistic health product ranges to meet broader consumer needs, improved in-store healthcare services, more personalised products, social media-first purchasing journeys, and ethical brand values.

The report valued the health and beauty industry at $998 billion in 2026, with a forecasted annual growth rate of 3.2 per cent by 2031. Within the market, e-commerce sales are expected to account for almost one third of total revenue in 2026.

“Shoppers expect credible expertise and values-led brands, reshaping how health and beauty is bought, experienced and trusted,” said Rachel Sibson, senior insight analyst at IGD.

The integration of social media, AI, and online influencers has created omnichannel shopping journeys, IGD said.

“This convergence of beauty, health and lifestyle is redefining loyalty, as shoppers look for trusted ecosystems that combine tailored recommendations, credible advice and habit-building routines.”
