Mondelēz International has launched three limited-edition Oreo flavours, with a national consumer voting initiative to determine which product will return to permanent production next year.

The flavours, Banana Pudding, Deep Fried, and Chicken & Waffles are available for online presale before rolling out to nationwide retail shelves today.

The Banana Pudding Oreo features a dual-layered creme with banana and vanilla pudding flavours paired with vanilla wafer cookies.

The Deep Fried version mimics carnival treats, containing dark chocolate and fried dough-flavoured creme inside fried dough-flavoured chocolate cookies.

Meanwhile, the Chicken & Waffles cookie combines maple syrup and savoury fried chicken flavour notes within a dual-layered creme, all nestled between waffle-embossed cookies.

“Twist, Lick, Vote” campaign encourages public participation in deciding which flavour will have a permanent place on store shelves, reflecting distinct regional dessert and savoury food trends.

Voting runs through October 12 and can be done using QR codes printed on the product packaging and through a dedicated campaign website. Mondelēz will announce the winning flavour on October 13.

“By releasing three incredibly distinct flavours at once, Banana Pudding, Deep Fried, and Chicken & Waffles, we are giving our community a real opportunity to influence the future of our product lineup,” said Matt Foley, VP of Oreo.

Rohit Sakhamuri, senior brand manager for Oreo Innovation, added that the development process focused on translating popular food trends into balanced sensory profiles for all three options.

“At the Oreo brand, delivering on complex flavours requires a rigorous, insights-driven R&D process. We tasked our team with simultaneously developing three unique flavours based on today’s evolving snacking trends,” said Sakhamuri.

“Through over a year of meticulous research, we successfully transformed cultural fascination into a delicious reality, achieving the sensory balance our fans expect.” he added.

In June, the company introduced a gluten-free version of its original Oreo cookie to the Australian market.
