Smith’s creates Lamington-flavoured chip

Aussie chip brand Smith’s is releasing its first sweet flavour chip this summer, with a take on an Aussie favourite, lamington.

PepsiCo flavourists tried a selection of lamington recipes to create a chip version of the classic dessert that delivers the taste of chocolate, coconut, cream and butter.

“We know Australians are increasingly keen to try new flavours, and interest is growing in sweet and savoury combinations. Our latest innovation combines a sweet, quintessentially Aussie cake with Australia’s favourite potato chip. It seemed the perfect way to celebrate the Australian summer,” Olivia Sutherland, Smith’s marketing director said.

Smith’s is known for making some bold choices with its chip flavours including flavours such as Garlic Bread, Peking Duck, Tomato Sauce and Gravy.

“Smith’s Lamington potato chip is Aussie through-and-through. Every potato that becomes a Smith’s chip is grown here in Australia, specifically bred to make sure we get the perfect size and colour of chip, and of course that iconic Smith’s crunch we know our consumers love,” she added.

The limited-edition Lamington flavour potato chips will be available at Woolworths, independents and selected petrol and convenience stores from January 1.
