Lion launches Australia’s first carbon-neutral, alcohol-free beer

Beverage company Lion has entered the non-alcoholic beer market, launching XXXX Zero, an alcohol-free version of the high-profile Queensland XXXX brew.

Brand director Chris Allan said XXXX previously pioneered the mid-strength market with the launch of its Gold version.

“We’re committed to innovation that empowers Australian drinkers to make the choices to suit their lifestyle. XXXX Zero is a beer that can be enjoyed for more occasions,” he said.

The alcohol-free beer category has been steadily growing in Queensland, which now outranks NSW and Victoria in sales.

The brand has also pledged to use 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2025. It boasts a Climate Active carbon-neutral certification marking its sustainability efforts.

The Australian lager is made with premium barley, malted in Queensland. It is brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops which Lion says offer a smooth aroma and a subtle finish.

The XXXX Zero lagers will be available in 330ml bottles and retail for $12 for a six-pack. They can be purchased from liquor stores and pubs in Queensland from May.
