Endeavour Group has developed a new sustainable premium wine bottle designed to help producers reduce packaging and emissions. The innovation has been made possible by a collaboration between its wine bottling and packaging arm, Vinpack International and sustainable packaging solutions provider Orora.
The new lightweight Reverse Taper bottle weighs only 420 grams – 195 grams less than a standard Reverse Taper bottle, which equates to an equivalent of an 18 per cent reduction in emissions.
In addition, bottles from the Orora Gawler facility where this bottle is made had a recycled glass content of approximately 38 per cent more than last year’s.
“We will continue to innovate towards best-practice in packaging and find more innovative solutions across our operations”, said James Vallance, manager at Vinpac International.
Chris Blanchard, national account manager for Orora Glass, explained that historically, the Reverse Taper bottle has always been the preferred premium option in the wine industry.
“Historically, heavier glass and deeper punt have been used for premium wines, so when developing this new option, it was important to keep the same look and feel for that premium touch,” said Blanchard.
Pinnacle Drinks, Endeavour’s products and services arm, would be transitioning to the new, more sustainable wine bottle in several ranges, including La Poco Tempranillo and Grenache, Old Fat Unicorn Tempranillo and Cat Amongst the Pigeons Tawny.
“We are excited to be among the first to market to use this new sustainable bottle,” added Paul Walton, director at Pinnacle Drinks.
“Moving to this new Reverse Taper lightweight bottle will help us decrease our carbon footprint further and provide significant environmental benefits and cost savings.”
