Seeking to reduce its environmental impact, the Australian gin distillery, Four Pillars, has partnered with Biogone, a Melbourne-based supplier of landfill-biodegradable plastic products, to replace its conventional pallet wrap.
Nicole Poole, bottling manager at Four Pillars, said sustainability is important to the company, and that’s why it searched for environmentally responsible plastic alternatives.
“We wanted practical durability with an eco-conscious edge,” said Poole. “That combination had been eluding us until we found Biogone.”
Worried that the quality “wouldn’t hold up” to what the company used in the past, knowing that each pallet weighs one tonne, she was initially hesitant to try Biogone’s solutions.
“We needed to keep those pallets wrapped tightly and secured for transporting worldwide,” she continued. “That was a significant ask.”
During the first week of using Biogone – including the landfill-biodegradable machine stretch wrap, pallet strapping, and pallet caps – the Four Pillars team said they couldn’t tell the difference as it performed similarly to the conventional plastics previously used.
The positive experience led the company to expand its use of Biogone’s range, incorporating landfill-biodegradable packing tape and bin liners.
“Our team particularly appreciates the strength and durability of the bin liners, which remain intact even when filled,” shared Poole.
“We no longer face issues such as torn liners or the need for double-bagging.”
