Pet care brand Greenies, a subsidiary of Mars, has expanded its dog treat portfolio with the launch of Pill Pockets.
The product features a built-in pouch and a malleable texture designed to encapsulate veterinary tablets, allowing pet owners to wrap and seal medication inside a treat.
The commercial launch targets a documented difficulty in domestic pet management, seeking to replace manual administration or the practice of concealing medication within human foods.
Developed in response to consumer research commissioned by Greenies, the product assists dog owners in administering pills with less operational friction and time consumption.
According to the brand’s data, owners frequently rely on items such as cheese and peanut butter to mask tablets, calculating that an average dog’s lifetime cumulative consumption under these traditional methods equates to approximately 24kg of cheese and 79 tubs of peanut butter.
The treats are manufactured in two flavour profiles: Peanut Butter and Smokey Ham.
The design relies on established treat-led animal behaviours to increase compliance rates for prescribed veterinary regimens without altering daily household routines.
“Giving medication to your dog can often feel stressful for both pets and their owners, with many pet-parents avoiding pill time altogether,” said Nicola Paroissien at Greenies.
“We created Pill Pockets to help take this struggle away, turning a sometimes twice-daily challenge into a simpler, more positive experience that dogs actually enjoy. By helping Turn Pill Time into Treat Time, we hope owners can spend less time worrying about medication and more time enjoying the happy, tail-wagging moments with their dogs they love,” said Paroissien.
The item is available on major Australian pet supply platforms, including Petstock and Pet Circle, at an RRP of $30.
Earlier, Mars Petcare introduced an in-store ‘Sniffari’ destination for dogs.
