Doritos has launched a high-protein tortilla-style chip, expanding into the protein snack category in the US.
The launch follows other functional snack and beverage introductions from PepsiCo, including products under its SmartFood, SunChips, Pepsi, Poppi and Quaker brands that focus on protein, fibre and prebiotic ingredients.
Doritos Protein contains 10 grams of protein per one-ounce serving, with a single-serve format offering 17 grams of protein per bag.
The chips are made using dairy-based protein (casein) and are available in Nacho Cheese and Sweet & Tangy BBQ flavours.
Jess Spaulding, VP of marketing at PepsiCo Foods US, said the company aimed to preserve the chips’ taste and texture while adding functionality.
“When we set out to create this product, we wanted to ensure we were delivering that unmistakable snacking experience, but in a new way with the added benefit of protein,” she said.
Doritos Protein is available in 7oz and 12.75oz with additional formats and sizes planned as the rollout continues this year.
