Australian agricultural company Nutrano Produce Group has secured the Tangold and Gold Nugget marketing licenses for IP mandarin varieties.

Previously held by Global Produce, the agreement will integrate the two intellectual property mandarin programs into Nutrano’s commercial distribution network.

Developed by the University of California, Riverside, Tangold and Gold Nugget mandarins are managed in Australia under formal licensing agreements overseen by Nu Leaf IP.

Under the new commercial framework, Nutrano assumes day-to-day marketing oversight for the varieties alongside existing licensed marketers, while Global Produce assists with the operational transition for growers.

The acquisition aligns with Nutrano’s vertically integrated operations, which encompass farming, packing, and wholesale marketing.

Established in 2016, Nutrano manages over 3000ha of farmland across Victoria, Queensland, and the NT.

The company’s Sunwest Farm in Victoria’s Sunraysia region already grows Tangold mandarins and houses automated packing facilities to support retail distribution across domestic supermarkets, independent grocers, and export channels.

“Nutrano is well positioned to support the continued development of these licensed varieties through our vertically integrated business model, upgraded packing facilities and established market access capabilities,” said David Jordan, CEO of Nutrano Produce Group.

“The teams at Global Produce and Nu Leaf have done an exceptional job establishing these world-class varieties and building a strong foundation for their next phase.

“Nutrano’s operational expertise, brand management experience and marketing capabilities will help strengthen the programs, support licensed growers and deliver premium fruit experiences for consumers.”

Last year, Nutrano Produce Group trialled compostable fruit stickers across select citrus lines in an effort to reduce its environmental footprint.
